Metrocology was retained to undertake a complete re-write of Canton’s existing Comprehensive Plan. With the closure of the Canton Paper Mill, and two devastating floods as a result of hurricanes, the Town needed a vision for how to grow, both economically and sustainably
Key to the future success of Canton is the prospect of what happens on the closed Mill property. The property represents the only large area of land available for redevelopment in Canton, and thus its success is directly tied to the success of the Town.
Metrocology along with Town Studio conducted multiple workshops and community meetings to hear from residents and business owners their goals and aspirations. All sought to tap into the natural setting afforded the Town by the Pigeon River, both an amenity and source of great peril due to its flooding capacity. The Comprehensive Plan outlines how the redeveloped Mill properties can serve both to help mitigate future flooding, while also providing the access and visibility to the natural amenity of the river.
