John and Jennifer Church of Chronicle Mill Land retained Metrocology to lead the master planning, rezoning, and architecture for the redevelopment of the 100-year-old historic Chronicle Mill, located in downtown Belmont. The seven-acre property runs along Catawba St, which links downtown Belmont with East Belmont, both historic commercial main streets, each less than a 5 min walk from the Mill.

Metrocology retained 236 Architects, (formerly West Depot Architects) to develop the interior building designs conceptually planned by Metrocology to complete construction drawings. The site plan for the Mill property became the anchor for a small area plan, completed by Metrocology, to redevelop the adjoining mill village housing into a lively, mixed use, high density main street, connecting downtown Belmont with East Belmont.

The civic program for the redevelopment sought to anchor Catawba St with urban open spaces consisting of an amphitheater, and green. A future trolley stop is planned at the amphitheater. The project was rezoned and Armada Hoffler brought in as the developer.
