Hudayriat New City Master Plan
Mubadala Development Company & Oppenheim Architecture & Planning
Oppenheim Architecture & Planning retained Metrocology as part of a multi- disciplinary Design Team to assist in the master planning of a series of repurposed and new islands covering 35 square miles in the Arabian Gulf next to central Abu Dhabi. Metrocology was tasked with preparing the overall structure plan to establish the design and program for the massive new city envisioned by the Client Mubadala Development
With a population target of 100,000 people set by the Urban Planning Council, Metrocology worked with Oppenheim and AECOM to develop an urban structure framework establishing residential densities, and commercial center and district sizes, around which use programs, open space networks, utilities & infrastructure needs, and civic requirements could be efficiently provided and networked across a series of islands. The master plan not only had to sustain a human habitat that would thrive, but also had to improve on the environmental conditions of the waters in the gulf in which it was located.
Using the transect as the guide for density distribution, and the neighborhood and district units to create transit and pedestrian sheds to support mobility and land use intensity, Metrocology laid out the urban framework for the master plan, which Oppenheim led the design of
